About the course

Gateway to English is designed for Lower Secondary students in Brunei Darussalam. It is intended to follow on from Primary English for Brunei Darussalam and builds carefully on the work undertaken at primary level to develop students’ skills and confidence in English. The course is based on the Lower Secondary English syllabus which was implemented in 2004 and prepares students for the Penilaian Menengah Bawah (PMB) examination.

The course consists of materials for Forms 1-3, and includes a student’s book, a workbook, cassettes and CDs and a teacher’s book for each level. The emphasis is on learning to use English effectively in both school and non-academic situations, and the course develops skills in oral communication, reading and writing, together with study and reference skills.

Other features include a full-colour design, authentic Bruneian content and an English-Malay glossary of important vocabulary items.

This teachers’ website to accompany the course provides additional revision and extension materials for teachers to download and print out as worksheets, reading texts from the Student’s Book and links to other useful websites.
